COLOUR, LINE AND HUMAN PRESENCE
Kalevras's paintings extend concerns that run throughout his sculpture: the body, movement and relationships between figures. Dancers, musicians, solitary figures and groups are organised through saturated colour, decisive contours and expressive gesture.
Rather than describe a scene in detail, he reduces each image to essential rhythms. Colour establishes atmosphere, while line gives the figures weight, direction and an immediate human presence.
